HSV 582 - Biopsychosocial Dimensions of Aging

3 Credits

This course covers the biology, psychology, and sociology of aging, with an emphasis of these issues within clinical settings. Students will explore the biology of aging, including normal aging, common physical changes, medical conditions, and associated functional impairment. Psychosocial issues will also be addressed, including multigenerational family dynamics, adult development (e.g. generativity and successful aging), and common late-life stressors (e.g. finances, death and mourning, and living arrangement changes). This course will also explore sociocultural trends in aging such as differences between generations, ageism, multicultural concerns, and discrimination.
