EQU 165 - Equine Care and Management

3 Credits

This course concentrates on the principles underlying best practices in the care and handling of equines. Those practices that maintain health and prevent injury are explored with an understanding of the equine as a domesticated biological creature that has evolved from a wild, herd-living, grazing, flight-oriented, prey species. Topics to be studied are aligned with hands-on activities of EQU 165L , and include equine behavior, daily care and health needs, equestrian activities, tack and equipment, and emergency care. Safety is considered throughout, as well as the business concerns of those involved in the care, custody, and control of animals. Enrollment in EQU 165L  is a recommended companion for Equine Studies majors.
