CHS 208 - Teaching Exceptional Learners 3 Credits
This course provides students with theoretical and practical applications for creating caring, inclusive learning environments that support the individual characteristics and developmental requirements for exceptional learners ages birth through eight years. Exceptional learners are children who have special needs, are dual or multiple language learners, gifted and/or talented, and have experienced trauma including homelessness, abuse and neglect. Students will explore: the history and philosophy of special education, current laws, public policies and practices, appropriate assessments, individualized planning and instruction, and partnerships with families and community service providers. Prerequisites: CHS 111 .
