Mission and Post University History and Overview
Mission Statement
The mission of Post University is to provide students with the knowledge, personal skills, and experiences required to become leaders in their chosen careers. We prepare students to become confident, competent, and competitive participants in the global marketplace.
Post University History and Overview
Post University prides itself on its continuous history of offering quality educational programs since its founding in 1890. The 58-acre campus in Waterbury, Connecticut consists of 273,400 square feet of facilities including fourteen buildings, four of which house nineteen instructional classrooms. The campus and surrounding community offer a scenic, friendly, and innovative learning environment for students. The central location of the campus provides easy access to many of the major cultural centers in the northeast. The campus is 90 minutes from New York City and two hours from Boston. Amtrak and Bradley International Airport are near the campus and offer quick and convenient transportation options.
In 2018, Post University leased and renovated the 53,000-square-feet historic Howland Hughes building in downtown Waterbury. This facility, with space for future growth, is home for associates who work in academic advising and financial aid for our online student services division. The building is a mix of the latest technology that blends contemporary functionality while preserving the heritage of an iconic building.
In the spring of 2021, Post established its fourth school at its campus - American Sentinel College of Nursing & Health Sciences - through the acquisition of American Sentinel University and a related entity, Sentinel U®, which licenses highly innovative simulated healthcare learning experiences to other colleges, universities, and healthcare institutions. This merger brought together two universities, each with a strong online presence while expanding programs dedicated to nursing and health sciences. With the merger we now offer an expanded roster of healthcare programming through the doctoral level. The American Sentinel College of Nursing & Health Sciences proudly joins with Malcolm Baldrige School of Business, School of Arts & Sciences, and John P. Burke School of Public Services and Education in continuing Post University's tradition serving the community by providing quality educational services.
Students can choose to attend classes on the Main Campus or online, via the Accelerated Degree Program. Students who attend the Main Campus can choose to live in one of six residence halls. The residence halls provide housing for up to 420 students. The newest residence hall, Okinaga Hall, can accommodate up to 146 resident students and consists of four student suites with single rooms. Post University encourages all students to take part in the many social and community activities available.
Specialized facilities include two science laboratories, two art classrooms, one photography classroom, a computer laboratory, a computer classroom, Center for Academic Success, the Rose Traurig Library, the Drubner Athletic and Fitness Center, and the Leever Student Center. Office space is available for administrators, faculty, academic support staff, student government and activities, career services, security, and health services. The online Accelerated Degree Program Division schedules classes on the Main Campus during evenings and weekends. All buildings connect to Post University's local area access network via the latest wireless technology.
The Drubner Athletic and Fitness Center is a two-floor facility with a fully equipped gymnasium, locker room, showers, and sauna. The Drubner Athletic and Fitness Center also has two outdoor tennis courts, two racquetball courts, a universal equipment room, training rooms, and a new cardio-vascular fitness center with a variety of contemporary equipment. The athletic staff has offices on the first floor and on the upper campus next to the athletic fields.
Post University is proud of its vibrant and diverse athletic programs. These programs consist of 24 varsity sports, 22 of which are NCAA sponsored. Post University's football team is part of the Collegiate Sprint Football League which includes Alderson Broaddus University, Army West Point, Caldwell University, Chestnut Hill College, Cornell University, Mansfield University, the US Naval Academy, University of Pennsylvania, and St. Thomas Aquinas College.
Post University prides itself on its innovative programming at the certificate, associate, bachelor's, master's, and doctoral level degrees. Diverse program offerings in business, human services, nursing and health sciences education, and other areas of study provide students with many educational opportunities. The design of the curriculum provides a career-focused, real-world learning experience in addition to challenging students to learn about themselves and reach their highest potential. The structure of the courses focuses upon hands-on learning and providing opportunities for students to get to know and bond with their instructors and fellow classmates. As a result of its diverse programming, Post University attracts students from a variety of ethnic backgrounds, cultures, geographic locations, and socio-economic levels. Considering our global economy, this diversity not only enriches the learning experience, but also prepares graduates to interact in the global economy and working environments they will encounter throughout their careers.
The design of the Accelerated Degree Program focuses on the needs of the adult learner. Adult learners benefit from the convenience online classes provide, which enables them to achieve their educational goals at the same time balancing work, family, and other responsibilities. Additionally, resident, non-resident, and online students enjoy a variety of student services designed to assist them should they encounter challenges at any point during their education. Tutoring services, academic advisement, personal advisement, financial advisement, and career services are some of the services available to students.
At Post University, you will receive personalized attention from the day you enroll, throughout your career as a student, to graduation. From quality academic programs to recreational activities and student support services, everyone at Post University is committed to your success. We look forward to partnering with you to achieve your academic and career goals, and showing you how Post Makes It Personal®.

State Licensure and Accreditation
The State of Connecticut through the Office of Higher Education licenses Post University. The purpose of licensure is to ensure that an institution and its academic programs (traditional classroom and online) comply with the quality standards required to operate in the state. The regulations and standards used by the Connecticut Office of Higher Education can be found at www.ctohe.org. In addition to licensure, the State of Connecticut also ensures through its accreditation process that Post University continues to meet the quality standards established by the state. Accreditation by the state of Connecticut carries with it authorization to award specified degrees. The Connecticut Office of Higher Education licensure information can be found at: http://www.ctohe.org/HEWeb/CollegesList.asp
Regional Accreditation
The New England Commission of Higher Education (formally the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc.) accredits Post University.
Accreditation of an institution of higher education by the New England Commission of Higher Education indicates that it meets or exceeds criteria for the assessment of institutional quality periodically applied though a peer review process. An accredited college or university is one which has available the necessary resources to achieve its stated purposes through appropriate educational programs, is substantially doing so, and gives reasonable evidence that it will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. Institutional integrity is also addressed through accreditation.
Accreditation by the New England Commission of Higher Education is not partial, but applies to the institution as a whole. As such, it is not a guarantee of every course or program offered, or the competence of individual graduates. Rather, it provides reasonable assurance about the quality of opportunities available to students who attend the institution.
Inquiries regarding the accreditation status by the New England Commission of Higher Education should be directed to the administrative staff of the institution. Individuals may also contact:

California - Bureau for Postsecondary Education
Post University is registered with the Bureau for Postsecondary Education.
California Student Tuition Recovery Fund (STRF)
California established the Student Tuition Recovery Fund (STRF) to relieve or mitigate economic loss suffered by a student in an educational program at a qualifying institution who is or was a California resident while enrolled or was enrolled in a residency program, if the student enrolled in the institution, prepaid tuition, and suffered an economic loss.
Unless relieved of the obligation to do so, you must pay the state-imposed assessment for the Fund STRF, or it must be paid on your behalf, if you are a student who is a California resident in an educational program or are enrolled in a residency program and prepay all or part of your tuition.
You are not eligible for protection from the STRF and you do not have to pay the STRF assessment if you are not a California resident or enrolled in a residency program. It is important that you keep copies of your financial aid documents, receipts, or any other information that documents the amount paid to the school. Direct all questions regarding the STRF to the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education, 2535 Capitol Oaks Drive, Suite 400, Sacramento, CA 95833, 916.431.6959 or 888.370.7589.
To be eligible for STRF, you must be a California resident or enrolled in a residency program, prepaid tuition, paid or deemed to have paid the STRF assessment, and suffered an economic loss as a result of any of the following:
- The institution, a location of the institution, or an educational program offered by the institution was closed or discontinued, and you did not choose to participate in a teach-out plan approved by the Bureau or did not complete a chosen teach-out plan approved by the Bureau.
- You were enrolled at an institution or a location of the institution within the 120-day period before the closure of the institution or location of the institution, or were enrolled in an educational program within the 120-day period before the program was discontinued.
- You were enrolled at an institution or a location of the institution more than 120 days before the closure of the institution or location of the institution in an educational program offered by the institution as to which the Bureau determined there was a significant decline in the quality or value of the program more than 120 days before closure.
- The Bureau orders the institution to pay a refund and it fails to do so.
- The institution did not pay or reimburse loan proceeds under a federal student loan program as required by law, or has failed to pay or reimburse proceeds received by the institution more than tuition and other costs.
- You have been awarded restitution, a refund, or other monetary award by an arbitrator or court, based on a violation of this chapter by an institution or representative of an institution, but have been unable to collect the award from the institution.
- You sought legal counsel resulting in the cancellation of one or more of your student loans and have an invoice for the rendering of services and evidence of the cancellation of the student loan or loans.
To qualify for STRF reimbursement, the application must be received within four (4) years from the date of the action or event that made the student eligible for recovery from STRF. A student whose loan is revived by a loan holder or debt collector after a period of non-collection may, at any time, file a written application for recovery from STRF for the debt that would have otherwise been eligible for recovery. If it has been more than four (4) years since the action or event that made the student eligible, the student must have filed a written application for recovery within the original four (4) year period, unless the period has been extended by another act of law. However, no claim can be paid to any student without a social security number or a taxpayer identification number.
California Student Complaint Process for Online Students
If you are enrolled as an online student living in California, which is not a member SARA and you have a complaint that cannot be resolved through Post University's internal complaint process, you may file a complaint with the California Department of Consumer Affairs (CADCA). On behalf of California student residents, CADCA will evaluate complaints, identify the appropriate accrediting agency or governmental entity to handle the complaint, and request a response from the entity regarding the final disposition of the complaint. The address and contact information for CADCA are below:

International Students
International students are advised to understand and be apprised of the rules, regulations, and requirements related to online distance education programs in their country of residence. Students are advised to understand if their countries will recognize the online certificates or degrees and if it they will meet any licensure or certification requirements. International students are encouraged to contact their admissions representative if they have any questions.
Professional Credentialing Disclosure Statement
The United States Department of Education (DOE) and National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA) require institutions to disclose to students, for programs specifically designed for certification or licensure, all requirements they must meet to attain the credential. This requirement applies to both online and in-person programs. Requirements for credentialing in fields such as accounting, education, and counseling vary from state to state. Students must contact the credentialing boards in the states in which they intend to work to determine any certification or licensure requirements. Students relocating during or after their education are responsible for researching the credentialing requirements for the state or territory to which they are moving. Students are further advised that some states' laws require criminal background checks which could result in being disqualified from testing. Students with criminal backgrounds are strongly advised to check with their home states for additional information.
Accounting
The Master of Science in Accounting, which includes a CPA Track, and Certificate in Accounting (Post-Baccalaureate) programs are designed to prepare students to sit for the Uniform Public Certified Accountant Exam. The requirements to take the Unified Public Certified Accountant Exam and for licensure vary by state and territory.
