The coursework further emphasizes communication skills critical to a graduate's success in the 21st century workplace, including content creation, public speaking, research and analysis techniques, collaboration strategies, intercultural sensitivity and awareness, and media literacy.

Communication and Media Studies students will have the opportunity to choose among three concentrations: Emerging Media, Strategic Communication, or General Communication. In the Emerging Media concentration, students will explore the history, development, management, and analysis of emerging media in a variety of personal, social, and professional settings. They will individually and collaboratively create professional content that is theory-based and indicative of social and ethical awareness. Students choosing to concentrate in Strategic Communication will study the development and utilization of strategic planning, persuasive campaigns, and integrated communication strategies for businesses, organizations, and companies of all sizes and missions. Lastly, the General Communication concentration allows students to test out a variety of the sub-fields of the discipline based on their own specialized interests. Students have the opportunity to pick their own path by completing 12 credits of Communication and Media studies courses at the 200+ level.
