HSV 514 - Trauma and Crisis Counseling

This course will provide students with knowledge and skills to effectively provide intervention to individuals, families, and communities experiencing trauma or crises. Students will learn about the prevalence of different types of crises and trauma as well as diagnostic criteria across populations. The student will also learn fundamental aspects of trauma-informed care as a best practice in terms of theory and techniques to assist in treating those facing a crisis or experiencing a trauma. Students will also learn the roles and responsibilities of professional counselors in relation to crisis and crisis management.
