HSV 335 - Violence Against Women

This course will focus on types of violence against women, including domestic violence, abuse, rape, sexual assault, sex trafficking, and sexual violence on college campuses. Themes include causes and impact of violence against women, sexism and institutionalized oppression, the objectification of women's bodies, media's role in perpetuating violence against women and homophobic/transphobic violence. These topics will be examined through a historical and cross-cultural perspective with special attention to how race, class, gender identity, and sexual orientation intersect women's experiences of violence.
