EQU 265 - Foundations of Equestrian Instruction

3 Credits

This course introduces the prospective equestrian instructor to the theory that underlies the teaching of horsemanship to individual students and groups.  Students will come to appreciate the value of this historic profession by understanding the rationale of classical riding theory and the use of a training scale.  Lesson planning, learning and teaching styles, assessment criteria, the teaching environment, and school horses are considered, as these things are all related to safety and effective learning. Students will observe and evaluate instructors in the field, and develop communication and collaboration skills through appropriate learning activities.
Prerequisites: EQU 165  or permission of the Academic Department.
