EQU 220 - Unmounted Horsemanship 3 Credits
This course prepares students for the challenges of handling equines on the ground in a variety of situations. The principles of compassion, mutual respect, and safety for humans and animals are applied throughout. Activities emphasize the risks involved in handling all equines for daily care as well as veterinary and farrier procedures. Normal and abnormal behavior of the domesticated equine, including the effects of confinement and human expectations, is considered. Students learn techniques that apply to restraint, working with green or fearful animals, and emergent situations. Direct contact work with equines is required consistently throughout the course. Online students are responsible for ensuring that they have sufficient access to complete course assignments before enrolling.
Prerequisites: EQU 165L or EQU 198 .
