CHS 252 - Social Studies in Early Childhood Classroom

This course introduces students to developmentally appropriate and culturally responsive approaches to teaching Social Studies to young children. Students explore themes, early learning standards, children's literature, integrated curriculum, project-based learning, and effective teaching strategies that promote children's understanding of self, family, community, and the larger world. Concepts in identity, prosocial behavior, cultural and environmental awareness, anti-bias education, equity, inclusion, and children's contributions to society are addressed.
Prerequisites: CHS 111.
