SCI 340 - Ethics in Science and Technology


3 Credits

Science and technology are powerful forces for changes, but the new world that they forge will depend on how societies weigh the ethical challenges that they create.  This course examines dilemmas between ethics and the application of advancing science and technology to bear on the public good. Topics include data privacy, security, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, social media, and nanotechnology. Students will explore a broad range of perspectives to understand the underlying issues and use critical thinking to evaluate the social costs and benefits of policies.  Students will also appreciate the business value of socially responsible science and technology.
Prerequisites: Junior Standing.
