HSV 513 - Advanced Theory and Techniques of Counseling

This course provides students with advanced theory and techniques of evidence-based counseling practices. Students will learn evidenced-based advanced counseling theories and techniques including interviewing, counseling skills, case conceptualization, treatment planning, consultation, systems approaches, and intervention planning as well as how to access to a variety of community-based resources. Students will also develop a personal model of counseling as well as examine characteristics and behaviors that influence the counseling process. Topics will also include ethical and cultural relevant strategies for counseling in-person as well as technology-assisted methods.
Prerequisites: Enrollment into the Master of Science in Counseling and Human Services, Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, or Professional Counseling Certificate, HSV 520, and have completed at least 21 graduate-level credits.
