HSV 552 - Professional Orientation and Ethical Practices In Counseling


3 Credits

This course introduces ethical and legal practices in professional counseling and examines important issues impacting mental health practice and other counseling specialties. Topics covered include professional counseling identity, professional behavior, and ethical decision-making models and practices to support navigating ethical dilemmas. Legal and ethical issues discussed are confidentiality, privileged communication, mandated reporting, record keeping, clinical supervision, informed consent, and other relevant areas to professional counseling.
Prerequisites: Enrollment into the Master of Science in Counseling and Human Services, Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, or Professional Counseling Certificate with a confirmed master's in counseling or counseling-related degree.
