N 514 - Integrated Advanced Pathopharmacology

This course emphasizes concepts from the biological sciences and nursing science in an examination of pathophysiologic and pharmacological principles used in the advanced nursing professional's management of acute and chronic illnesses across the lifespan. Regulatory and compensatory mechanisms as they relate to diseases are examined. Cellular biology, anatomy, genes and gene-environment interactions, mechanisms of self-defense, cellular proliferation, and pathophysiologic alterations related to organs and body systems are described. Students learn to employ therapeutic decision-making in medication selection and evaluation during patient care within the context of knowledge concerning pathophysiology and current pharmacological research.  The course reviews patient education and legal, ethical, and economic issues. Knowledge from this course will enhance the student's clinical judgment when providing care to patients and populations across the lifespan.
