COM 108 - Principles of Communication and Media


3 Credits

This introductory level course familiarizes students with an understanding of how media texts are constructed, how they convey meaning and how they shape our world in significant ways. The course explores the history of technology and its impact on communication and highlights key thinkers in the field of Communication and Media Studies to assess the effect of their work on societal issues, pop culture trends, and economic contexts. Students will explore the impact of communication through a variety of media forms, including art and entertainment, journalism, advertising, and emerging media.
