HSV 593 - Clinical Field Practicum I


3 Credits

The clinical field practicum has a primary focus on students engaging in direct practice with clients in the field to develop their clinical counseling skills and the management of counseling sessions. Students are expected to utilize a variety of clinical skills and techniques, explore counseling theories, and conduct client interaction from intake through termination of services. This course synthesizes the knowledge, skills, and dispositions students have gained during prerequisite courses. The experience requires a minimum of at least 180 hours of supervised clinical activities on-site. This course also includes a required online synchronous component involving weekly participation in a two (2) hour group supervision with the instructor.  Students will complete this component at an approved clinical placement consistent with the degree concentration: Clinical Mental Health or Alcohol and Drug Certification (This course cannot be taken by students completing the Professional Counseling Certificate).

All students seeking enrollment into the clinical field practicum must secure a placement approved by the program. Students must earn and maintain a 3.00 GPA to be eligible for enrollment into a field experience.
