Mission Statement

At Post University, we believe that personalized guidance, unwavering motivation, robust support, and a student-centered education are the catalysts that allow students to achieve their individual academic and career goals.  We shape workforce ready, socially responsible leaders through learning experiences offered in and out of the classroom designed to promote the exchange of knowledge, expand thinking, and refine practical and professional skills.       

Post University History and Overview

Post University is an independent, for-profit university located in Waterbury, CT.  Post University prides itself on its continuous history of offering quality educational programs since its founding in 1890. The 58-acre campus in Waterbury, Connecticut, consists of 273,400 square feet of facilities, including fourteen buildings, four of which house nineteen instructional classrooms. The campus and surrounding community offer students a scenic, friendly, and innovative learning environment. The central location of the campus provides easy access to many of the major cultural centers in the northeast. The campus is 90 minutes from New York City and two hours from Boston. Amtrak and Bradley International Airport are near the campus and offer quick and convenient transportation options.

In 2018, Post University leased and renovated the 53,000-square-foot historic Howland Hughes building in downtown Waterbury. With space for future growth, this facility is home for associates who work in academic advising and financial aid for our online student services division. The building is a mix of the latest technology that blends contemporary functionality while preserving the heritage of an iconic building.

In March 2021, Post University established the American Sentinel College of Nursing & Health Sciences by acquiring American Sentinel University and a related entity, Sentinel U®, which licenses highly innovative simulated healthcare learning experiences to other colleges, universities, and healthcare institutions.  This merger brought together two universities with a strong online presence while expanding Post University's programs dedicated to nursing and health sciences through the doctoral level.  American Sentinel College of Nursing & Health Sciences proudly joins with The Malcolm Baldrige School of Business, School of Arts and Sciences, and John P. Burke School of Public Services and Education in continuing Post University's tradition of serving the community by providing quality educational services.  Within these schools and college at Post University are additional educational opportunities in professional development and continuing education.  These continuing education and professional development courses and programming are offered through the discipline-specific subject areas within each school or college.  For example, the Police Recertification Program, an online training program for police officers, is offered in the John P. Burke School of Public Service and Education.

Students can attend classes on the Main Campus or online via the Accelerated Degree Program. Students attending the Main Campus can live in one of six residence halls. The residence halls provide housing for up to 430 students. The newest residence hall, Okinaga Hall, can accommodate up to 146 resident students and has student suites with four single bedrooms. Post University encourages all students to participate in social and community activities.

Specialized facilities include two science laboratories, two art classrooms, one photography classroom, a computer laboratory, a computer classroom, the Center for Academic Success, the Rose Traurig Library, the Drubner Athletic and Fitness Center, and the Leever Student Center. Office space is available for administrators, faculty, academic support staff, student government and activities, career services, security, and health services. All buildings connect to Post University's local area access network via the latest wireless technology.

The Drubner Athletic and Fitness Center is a two-story building featuring a gymnasium for basketball and volleyball and a universal equipment room/cardiovascular fitness center with various contemporary equipment. The facility has two outdoor tennis courts, an indoor batting cage, indoor golf driving and ice hockey shooting area, and athletic training rooms. The athletic staff has offices on both floors of the Drubner Center.

Post University is proud of its vibrant and diverse athletic programs.  These programs consist of 24 varsity sports, 22 of which are NCAA-sponsored. In addition, Esports teams compete as members of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), and Cheerleading has been added as a club sport.  Post University's football program was recently elevated to a Division II independent program and will compete as a member of the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) beginning in Fall 2024.

All teams currently compete for conference championships within the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) except for women's ice hockey, which competes in the New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA), men's ice hockey, which competes in the NE10, and men's and women's indoor track and field which compete in the East Coast Conference (ECC).  Winning a conference championship in the CACC, ECC, and NEWHA results in a trip to the NCAA Tournament. 

Post University prides itself on its innovative programming in certificate and associate, bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees. Diverse program offerings in business, human services, nursing and health sciences education, and other areas of study provide students with various educational opportunities. The curriculum design provides a career-focused, real-world learning experience and challenges students to learn about themselves and reach their highest potential. The structure of the courses focuses on hands-on learning and providing opportunities for students to get to know and bond with their instructors and classmates. As a result of its diverse programming, Post University attracts students from various ethnic backgrounds, cultures, geographic locations, and socio-economic levels. Considering our global economy, this diversity enriches the learning experience and prepares graduates to interact in the global economy and working environments they will encounter throughout their careers.

The design of the Accelerated Degree Program focuses on the needs of the adult learner. Adult learners benefit from the convenience online classes provide, enabling them to achieve their educational goals while balancing work, family, and other responsibilities. Additionally, resident, non-resident, and online students enjoy various student services designed to assist them should they encounter challenges at any point during their education. Tutoring services, academic advisement, personal advisement, financial advisement, and career services are available to students.

State Licensure and Accreditation  

The state of Connecticut through the Office of Higher Education licenses Post University. The purpose of licensure is to ensure that an institution and its academic programs (traditional classroom and online) comply with the quality standards required to operate in the state. The regulations and standards used by the Connecticut Office of Higher Education can be found at www.ctohe.org. In addition to licensure, the state of Connecticut also ensures through its accreditation process that Post University continues to meet the quality standards established by the state. Institutional Accreditation  

The New England Commission of Higher Education (formally the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc.) institutionally accredits Post University.

Accreditation of an institution of higher education by the New England Commission of Higher Education indicates that it meets or exceeds criteria for the assessment of institutional quality periodically applied though a peer review process. An accredited college or university is one which has available the necessary resources to achieve its stated purposes through appropriate educational programs, is substantially doing so, and gives reasonable evidence that it will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. Institutional integrity is also addressed through accreditation.

Accreditation by the New England Commission of Higher Education is not partial, but applies to the institution as a whole. As such, it is not a guarantee of every course or program offered, or the competence of individual graduates. Rather, it provides reasonable assurance about the quality of opportunities available to students who attend the institution.

Programmatic Accreditation

Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs    

The following degree programs taught within The Malcolm Baldrige School of Business hold programmatic accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs. Since its founding in 1988, Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs is the only business program accrediting agency that offers programmatic accreditation for associate, baccalaureate, and graduate degree programs. Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education

The Doctor of Nursing Practice program with four specializations within the American Sentinel College of Nursing & Health Sciences at Post University is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, Inc. National Association for the Education of Young Children Programmatic Accreditation 

The Bachelor of Science in Child Studies program within the John P. Burke School of Public Service and Education holds accreditation from the Commission on the Accreditation of Early Childhood Higher Education Programs of the National Association for the Education of Young Children, 1313 L Street, NW, Suite 500 Washington, D.C. 20005, (202) 232-8777. The accreditation term for the Bachelor of Science in Child Studies program runs from March 2019 through March 2026.

The Associate of Science in Early Childhood Education program within the John P. State Approvals

State Authorization Regarding Online and Distance Education

The following information explains Post University's status regarding offering online education to students outside of Connecticut.  Students located in any state may enroll in all online programming offered by Post University. 

State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA)

Post University is an institutional participant in the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA). As a participating institution, it adheres to a common set of standards for offering postsecondary distance education among member states, districts, and territories. The Agreement establishes comparable national standards for the interstate offering of postsecondary distance education courses and programs. Post University continues to monitor developments in the relevant laws in each state. If authorization or licensure is or becomes necessary, Post University will take the necessary steps to gain approval.

NC-SARA Member States, Districts, and Territories

The chart below lists all current participating SARA states, as well as the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Out-of-State Educational/Field Experience

Courses and programs incorporating a "supervised field experience" are covered by SARA provisions.  SARA defines a "supervised field experience" as a learning experience under the oversight of a supervisor, mentor, faculty member or other qualified professional, located in the host state, who has a direct or indirect reporting responsibility to the institution where the student enrolled.  Examples are internships, practica, or field experiences.  

State Boards of Nursing may require additional notifications and requirements related to field and clinical experiences. Students will work with the clinical coordinator and compliance officer within American Sentinel School of Nursing and Health Sciences to ensure all requirements are met.

California Bureau for Private Post-Secondary Education

Post University is authorized to provide its educational programs in California through the California Bureau for Private and Post-Secondary Education (BPPE). Our current authorization is approved through April 28, 2024.

Additional California Disclosures

The State of California established the Student Tuition Recovery Fund (STRF) to relieve or mitigate economic loss suffered by a student in an educational program at a qualifying institution, who is or was a California resident while enrolled, or was enrolled in a residency program, if the student enrolled in the institution, prepaid tuition, and suffered an economic loss. Unless relieved of the obligation to do so, you must pay the state-imposed assessment for the STRF, or it must be paid on your behalf, if you are a student in an educational program, who is a California resident, or are enrolled in a residency program, and prepay all or part of your tuition.  You are not eligible for protection from the STRF and you are not required to pay the STRF assessment if you are not a California resident, or are not enrolled in a residency program.

It is important that you keep copies of your enrollment agreement, financial aid documents, receipts, or any other information that documents the amount paid to the school. To be eligible for STRF, you must be a California resident or are enrolled in a residency program, prepaid tuition, paid or deemed to have paid the STRF assessment, and suffered an economic loss as a result of any of the following:

1. The institution, a location of the institution, or an educational program offered by the institution was closed or discontinued, and you did not choose to participate in a teach-out plan approved by the Bureau or did not complete a chosen teach-out plan approved by the Bureau.
2. You were enrolled at an institution or a location of the institution within the 120 day period before the closure of the institution or location of the institution, or were enrolled in an educational program within the 120 day period before the program was discontinued.
3. You were enrolled at an institution or a location of the institution more than 120 days before the closure of the institution or location of the institution, in an educational program offered by the institution as to which the Bureau determined there was a significant decline in the quality or value of the program more than 120 days before closure.
4. The institution has been ordered to pay a refund by the Bureau but has failed to do so.
5. The institution has failed to pay or reimburse loan proceeds under a federal student loan program as required by law, or has failed to pay or reimburse proceeds received by the institution in excess of tuition and other costs.
6. You have been awarded restitution, a refund, or other monetary award by an arbitrator or court, based on a violation of this chapter by an institution or representative of an institution, but have been unable to collect the award from the institution.
7. You sought legal counsel that resulted in the cancellation of one or more of your student loans and have an invoice for services rendered and evidence of the cancellation of the student loan or loans.

To qualify for STRF reimbursement, the application must be received within four (4) years from the date of the action or event that made the student eligible for recovery from STRF.

A student whose loan is revived by a loan holder or debt collector after a period of noncollection may, at any time, file a written application for recovery from STRF for the debt that would have otherwise been eligible for recovery. If it has been more than four (4) years since the action or event that made the student eligible, the student must have filed a written application for recovery within the original four (4) year period, unless the period has been extended by another act of law. However, no claim can be paid to any student without a social security number or a taxpayer identification number.

California Student Complaint Process for Online Students

If you are enrolled as an online student living in California, which is not a member SARA  and you have a complaint that cannot be resolved through Post University's internal complaint process, you may file a complaint with the California Department of Consumer Affairs (CADCA). On behalf of California student residents, CADCA will evaluate complaints, identify the appropriate accrediting agency or governmental entity to handle the complaint, and request a response from the entity regarding the final disposition of the complaint. International Students

International students are advised to understand and be apprised of the rules, regulations, and requirements related to online distance education programs in their country of residence.  Students are advised to understand if their countries will recognize the online certificates or degrees and if it they will meet any licensure or certification requirements.  International students are encouraged to contact their admissions representative if they have any questions.

Professional Credentialing Disclosure Statement

The United States Department of Education (DOE) and National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA) require institutions to disclose to students, for programs specifically designed for certification or licensure, all requirements they must meet to attain the credential.  This requirement applies to both online and in-person programs.  Requirements for credentialing in fields such as accounting, education, and counseling vary from state to state. Post University assists in researching and providing information regarding licensure; however, each state has different requirements for such licensure outside of the required education. Such state requirements may include licensure exams, background checks, certain work experience, and more. It is ultimately the responsibility of each student to manage their own licensure process and to ensure that all requirements are met in order for the student to obtain licensure. Associate of Science in Accounting, Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Master of Science in Accounting, Certificate in Accounting (Post-Baccalaureate), Certificate in Forensic Accounting

The Associate of Science in Accounting and Bachelor of Science in Accounting degrees are not designed to fulfill Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensure requirements in an individual state, however, the programs may be used to partially fulfill licensure requirements. The programs are also not designed to fulfill Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification requirements, although the programs may be used to partially fulfill these requirements (the other requirements can be found on the Institute of Management Accountants website: https://www.imanet.org/).

The Master of Science in Accounting, with the CPA Track, and Certificate in Accounting (Post-Baccalaureate) programs are designed to prepare students to sit for the Uniform Public Certified Accountant Exam.

The Certificate in Forensic Accounting is designed to prepare students for the Certified Fraud Examiner examination. Specific Program Disclaimers

All other programs the University offers are not designed to prepare students for licensure or certification.  Students are responsible for contacting the appropriate credentialing agencies in their home states before enrolling in any degree or certificate programs they intend to use for obtaining professional credentialing, to determine whether the programs will meet their home states credentialing requirements.   Other than the accounting programs that are designated above, Post does not confirm whether any other programs meet the requirements for professional licensure inside or outside of Connecticut.  

Associate of Science in Early Childhood Education

The Associate of Science in Early Childhood Education degree is not designed to fulfill the educational requirements for any educational credential, such as a state teacher's license or an early childhood certification.  Post University assists in researching and providing information regarding licensure; however, each state has different requirements for such licensure outside of the required education. Such state requirements may include licensure exams, background checks, certain work experience, and more. Bachelor of Science in Child Studies
The Bachelor of Science in Child Studies degree is not designed to fulfill the educational requirements for any educational credential, such as a state teacher's license or an early childhood certification.  Post University assists in researching and providing information regarding licensure; however, each state has different requirements for such licensure outside of the required education. While the Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling is not designed to fulfill licensure requirements in an individual state, the program may be used to partially fulfill licensure requirements.  Post University assists in researching and providing information regarding licensure; however, each state has different requirements for such licensure outside of the required education. Master of Science in Counseling and Human Services

Graduates may work in a wide variety of settings, including non-profits, state agencies, corrections, halfway houses, child and family service centers, and geriatric facilities. Students will need to fulfill additional specific requirements to become credentialed counselors. While the Master of Science in Counseling and Human Services is not designed to fulfill licensure requirements in an individual state, the program may be used to partially fulfill licensure requirements. Post University assists in researching and providing information regarding licensure; however, each state has different requirements for such licensure outside of the required education. Alcohol and Drug Counseling Certificate

Master of Science in Higher Education

Non-Licensure Nursing Programs Including:

Master of Science Nursing (Family Nurse Practitioner, Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Specializations)

Andrew Hertzmark, MBA Chairman and CEO

Andrew Hertzmark is a Managing Partner at Generation Partners, which he joined Generation in 2004, and is a Trustee at Post University. Prior to joining Generation in 2004, Mr. Hertzmark was an Associate at Galen Partners, and an Analyst and Associate in the Investment Banking divisions of Dillon, Read & Company, and UBS AG, respectively. Additionally, Mr. Hertzmark worked in the Business Development Group at Pfizer, Inc. as well as the National Economic Council within the Executive Office of the President of the United States. Mr. Hertzmark earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Political Science from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from The Wharton School of Business. Mr. Hertzmark served as Chairman of the Board of The Wholesome Wave Foundation for over 10 years and is a former Board Member of The New York League for Early Learning. Mr. Hertzmark is originally from Waterbury, CT.

Louis Marino, Secretary

Louis Marino is a Senior Vice President and the Chief Financial Officer at Generation Partners, which he joined in 2003. Previously, Mr. Marino was a Senior Associate in PricewaterhouseCoopers' Audit and Business Advisory Services group for four years. Mr. Marino earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Boston College and is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Connecticut. Mr. Marino is a native of Monroe, CT.
