Doctor of Nursing Practice - Professional Leadership Specialization

The online Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) with a Professional Leadership Specialization at Post University offers the insights and instruction students could use to make a positive impact on patient care and their leadership future. The doctorate in nursing leadership specialization covers five key competencies-leadership, business intelligence, finance, health policy, and health services research-while providing the curriculum flexibility to customize the education to students' leadership goals with multiple electives.

This is a post-licensure nursing program. Students must already be licensed as an RN and hold a BSN degree and a master's degree to be accepted for admission and must maintain an active and unencumbered RN license throughout their enrollment in the program. This program is not designed to fulfill the educational requirements for any licensure or certification. Post University does not speak on behalf of any licensing board or body but does assist students in understanding licensure requirements.

Coursework in the online doctorate in nursing leadership specialization is designed to help students build the foundation of insights and practical skills necessary to: 

  • Appraise the needs of complex organizations as they go through strategic decision-making and change implementation. 
  • Critique roles of leaders and collaborators in planning, providing, and evaluating healthcare. 
  • Generate strategic plans for organizational change by utilizing theoretical knowledge, meaningful, data and evidence- based practice to while being culturally and ethnically sensitive 
  • Utilize evidence-based data and analytic methods to develop, implement and evaluate best practices to advance healthcare
  • Engage in complex, evidence-based advanced nursing practice and evaluate innovative approaches to care delivery for individuals, communities, and populations. 
  • Work within interdisciplinary teams to effectively, promote health, enhance patient outcomes, and improve healthcare delivery systems

DNP Project 

The program requires a scholarly evidence-based quality project. The subject area is determined by the student in consultation with the DNP Project Chair and Committee and must meet the academic standards of the College. All research is subject to the review and supervision of the American Sentinel College of Nursing & Health Sciences Institutional Review Board. A unique feature of the DNP Project is that it is completed alongside other courses while working with the assigned DNP Project Chair. This does not require additional courses or credits for the program.

Curriculum

DNP students take one course at a time unless authorized by the Dean of the program. 

DNP Professional Leadership


Many courses in the DNP program require the completion of Practice Experience (PE) hours. These hours are activities replacing traditional schoolwork that students complete during their courses.
