HSV 513 - Advanced Theory and Techniques of Counseling


3 Credits

This advanced course continues the student's learning experience by applying counseling theories, approaches, and clinical skills and techniques. The course reintroduces the students to various counseling theories and provides an opportunity to explore selected post-modern approaches to counseling, including application and use. The student will engage in the application of clinical skills and techniques by participating in mock counseling sessions that include the development of case conceptualization skills, intake skills, and treatment planning skills. Students will participate in activities to support the development of their personal model of counseling, ethical considerations for in-person and telehealth counseling, and the use of technology in clinical counseling.
Prerequisites: Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (MSCMC) or Master of Science in Counseling and Human Services (MSHSV) Students: HSV 520 

Professional Counseling Certificate: Completion of twenty-one (21) credits and successfully completed HSV 520 , or a comparable counseling theories course.
