3 Credits

The counseling internship provides an opportunity for the counseling student to synthesize their knowledge, skills, and dispositions into practical experiences in an approved provider of mental health services in the community. During this time, the student will engage with other allied mental health professionals, preferably professional counselors, gaining hands-on experience of the professional counselor identity. Students are provided the opportunity to demonstrate their learning, implement skills, and participate in the practice of professional counseling from clinical intake to termination of counseling services. Students will participate in on-site clinical supervision with an approved field supervisor and live clinical group supervision (synchronous component) with their university professors and peers. Students are required to complete no less than 600 hours, including 240 hours of direct clinical service with clients and 360 hours of indirect hours that may include but are not limited to meetings, clinical documentation, consultation, supervision, and session preparation and may accrue additional hours to meet their state licensure requirements.
