MBA 525 SIM - Healthcare Analytics

3 Credits

The purpose of this course is to introduce healthcare data analytics through a hands-on approach by working with data across the analytics continuum and through the lens of conducting research projects using secondary data sources. The course uses numerous publicly available data sets that have been obtained from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, US Census, Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, Environmental Protection Agency, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Minnesota Department of Health. These data sets have been aggregated into one relational database that is used for all analyses included in this course. Learners have a unique opportunity to extract data from a very large SQL database, work with the data using relevant tools for data preparation and analysis, including Microsoft Excel and RStudio, perform descriptive summaries, create data visualizations, and employ statistical and machine learning models to evaluate the data. Learners will engage with data analytics using a hands-on, research-driven approach. Throughout the course, learners are exposed to both simple and complex database programming syntax. Learners will also be exposed to basic descriptive statistics, and inferential statistics such as two-way ANOVAs, regression models, data mining techniques, as well as advanced data visualization techniques.
Prerequisites: MBA 520 SIM .
