HSV 552 - Professional Orientation and Ethical Practices


3 Credits

This course provides students with an understanding of the professional identity and ethical practices of professional counselors and those practicing under the specialty of clinical mental health counseling. The student will learn what the professional counselor's identity consists of and to discern the differences between professional counselors and other allied mental health professionals. They will also gain a working knowledge of applicable professional ethical standards, the identification of ethical principles and dilemmas, and decision-making models for resolving ethical dilemmas. This will include ethical practices in a society of diverse identities and cultures, client's rights, confidentiality, privileged communication, and the importance of adhering to professional standards.
