HSV 594 - Clinical Field Practicum II

3 Credits

Clinical Field Practicum II is the second field experience course that promotes students' engagement in direct practice in counseling as they develop clinical counseling skills and learn to manage counseling sessions. As in the previous field experience, Clinical Field Practicum I (HSV 593 ), students are expected to use various clinical skills, techniques, theories, and interventions while demonstrating new learning not demonstrated in Clinical Field Practicum I. Students will apply the knowledge, skills, and dispositions acquired during prerequisite courses. This course has a required synchronous component that meets weekly for (2) hours. Students enrolled in the Professional Counseling Certificate are not eligible for enrollment into the field placement courses.
Prerequisites: Prerequisites for MSHSV Concentrations and Alcohol and Drug Certificate:

  • HSV 593   and/or approval of the current director of graduate counseling
  • Students must have a GPA of 3.00 or higher when beginning any field experience.

Course prerequisites needed for all field experiences:

  • Must have a supervisor with a minimum of a master's level in the field and be licensed in a counseling or related profession. If seeking licensure, the supervisor must meet the state's requirements where the student is seeking licensure.
  • Must be in a placement that expressly fits the student's concentration area.

The minimum practicum requirement is 100 hours.  Some states may have additional practicum hour requirements. While Post University provides information on individual state practicum requirements, it is the student's responsibility to verify and fulfill their state's specific requirements.
