HSV 513 - Advanced Theory and Techniques of Counseling


3 Credits

This course provides students with advanced theory and techniques of evidence-based counseling practices. Students will learn evidenced-based advanced counseling theories and techniques including interviewing, counseling skills, case conceptualization, treatment planning, consultation, systems approaches, and intervention planning as well as how to access to a variety of community-based resources. Students will also develop a personal model of counseling as well as examine characteristics and behaviors that influence the counseling process. Topics will also include ethical and cultural relevant strategies for counseling in-person as well as technology-assisted methods.
Prerequisites: Enrollment into the Master of Science in Counseling and Human Services, Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, or Professional Counseling Certificate, HSV 520 ,  and have completed at least 21 graduate-level credits.
